Pfeil Any English people around here?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if there are English-speaking people in this community. My husband and I with our 8 month old daughter is living in hochfeld since September 2005. I still havent explored Duisburg and never had the chance to meet new friends. If you are living in the nearby area and interested to meet up and do some activities together then please let me know...i would be glad to have new fiends either English speaking or non-english speaking.

Hope to hear from you soon..

thank you and smile always,

LouieShe

RE: Any English people around here?

Hi LouieShe, welcome to the Ruhrpottforum message board!

Since English is a mandatory subject at our schools, everybody around here should be able to express themselves (more or less elegantly ).

Pardon my curiosity, but what has led you to Germany? Is your husband serving in the military or working for an international company? How long to you plan to live her?

(I will be motorcycling in the Sauerland region of Northrhine-Westphalia, so I won't be able to reply until the evening.)

Enjoy!

Yes, more or less everybody around here should be able to speak or understand at least some english words. Indeed it would be interesting to know, why you and your family have come to Germany.

I'm sure that you will soon find out that most people living in the Ruhr Valley (or "Ruhrpott", as every body says here) are friendly and open-minded, I you haven't learned already.

RE: Any English people around here?

I would like to thank you ALL for welcoming me to this community. to answer your questions ;

---EMJAY---

My husband is German and in fact a native of Duisburg. 2 years ago, he was able to convince me to move to cologne Germany, he became more persistent and i was just too weak to say no when he asked me to marry him last December of the same year...lol We used to live in Cologne, where he is still working untl now. but after i got pregnant earls last year, we decided that we need a bigger house and a more quiet place... so we decided to move to Hochfeld Duisburg where we were able to get a house that is very accessible to almost everything.

Well moving from Cologne to Duisburg is also a big step for us, I love cologne because of its night-life and it´s an international city that is why most people can speak basi English. then again, once you are married and become a parent, your priorities and preference changes, now i prefer to live in a more quiet City---Duisburg

I guess i would be staying in Germany for a long time or maybe for the rest of my life...it is where I found my new family and my new life ...

---VORTEX----

I can speak and understand basic German since i was able to study at the VHS for 5 months..i am aware my speaking skill is not that good but i understand enough to be in a conversation.

---SUBE----

Yeah i believe it is but advantageous for someone if he or she can at least speak and understand basic English, it is the international language which is understood and spoken almost everywhere...good that you were able to learn good out of your English lessons...

---COOP---

Thank you for being so friendly and i agree, members of this community are friendly and open minded..receiving and reading all your responses is a very good proof...

Wish we can meet up some day for some activities.. si there someone here who is interested to pla some sports? We should go out and enjoy the beautiful day that we have, we only enjoy it three months every year...hope to hear from all of you again!

Heya!

I spent the last two years in England, literally lived there, and now I am quite happy to be back in good old germany, you know
It's always a huge reorientation when you move, especially abroad.
If you have any queries or questions, just ask!

Hi LouieShe,

Is it allow to ask you where you're from, originally? Are you from the UK, RSA, are you an American or an Aussie? (It's always interesting to me to meet people from these countries.)

It is really crazy to read, what love can do if you find your sweetheart abroad. I already got own experiences with these things.

I did the opposite way: I moved to England because more jobs are offered there. And I also like the British Pound, which makes a lot of things cheaper in Germany caused only by the currency exchange. And I was never a friend of the Euro, who made everthing so expensive.

I also find you courageous to move to Duisburg. My information and my own observation let me thank to God that I never had to live there. I heard a lot of parts of this city are in the hand of foreigners. Duisburg is not the most peaceful city in the Ruhr-Area.

When I still was together with my Ex, in the beginning I also saw, that a lot of Germans are not able to speak english, eventhough they got it in the school. I didn't marry a german..

Me - I can't imagine to turn back to Germany, exept being tourist. I really like to be abroad. And - in Germany I know my only future would be Hartz4. So pls you might help me to find out, why so many foreigners are still interested to come to Germany? Because almost everything is going down there. I can't see the fasznation of this country anymore.

Actually my ambitions are to go further. I am just in this country to earn some money. But my dream is to go further, to a place where it is not cold during the winter time.

But anyway. I wish you a lucky start in your new area which is my old home...
O by the way: Perhaps you may go to a bookshop and ask for the little "Kauderwelsch - Book" German for English speakers. it is with a lot of english explication and it will advise you the specialities and the difficulties of the german grammar. And will help you to get a basic for a simple conversation. The price is low. Less than 8,-€
But it is also a help to read newspapers or watching DVDs, in german with german subtitles. I did the opposite way for english and it helped me a lot, coz I got a lot of new words.

Alright, have a lot of fun!
